    Aromatherapists use it as a substitute for Sandalwood, though its properties are not the same.

    AngelicaAngelica is a genus of about 60 species of tall biennial and perennial herbs in the family Apiaceae native to temperate and subarctic regions of the Northern Hemisphere reaching as far North as Iceland and Lapland. They grow to 1-3 m tall, with large bipinnate leaves and large compound umbels of white or greenish-white flowers. It is a rather large, water-loving herb, with broad pointed leaves dividing into smaller leaflets and has small white-green flowers. It has a strong aromatic scent and a large rhizome.

    Anise Star - Illicium verum

    Commonly called Star anise (Illicium verum), star aniseed, or Chinese star anise is a spice that closely resembles anise in flavor, obtained from the star-shaped pericarp of Illicium verum, a medium-sized native evergreen tree of northeast Vietnam and southwest China. The star shaped fruits are harvested just before ripening.

    Is similar to Aniseed essential oil in properties but it is considered to be much safer for use in Aromatherapy. Aromatherapists use it for aphrodisiac, asthma,  bronchitis, colds, colic, coughs, cramp, flatulence, increasing breast milk, calming, circulation, emotional balance, heartache, indigestion, relaxation, muscle spasm, muscular aches and pains, rheumatism, stress.

  • Aniseed (Pimpinella anisum)

    Aniseed (Pimpinella anisum)

    Aniseed essential oilAniseed oil may be used  to relieve dyspepsia, colic and flatulence. For a soothing massage to relieve digestive problems, blend with the antispasmodic properties of peppermint and nutmeg.

    Aniseed oil is also recommended for nauseous migraines, palpitations of the heart and any breathing difficulty due to bronchial spasms.

    Aniseed blends well with bay, cedarwood, eucalyptus, dill, fennel, ginger, mandarin, petitgrain, peppermint, rosemary and spearmint.

    Basil (Ocimum basillicum)

    PROPERTIES: Soothing, energizing, toning. Traditional use: deodorant, soothing agent, insect repellent, muscle relaxant. Invigorates body and spirit: helps refresh the mind allowing concentration, especially when tired. A good nerve tonic after a stressful day and seems to have an uplifting effect on depression.

    Benzoin (Styrax Benzoin)

    Benzoin tree is native to South East Asia and grows to 8 meters (20 feet) in height. Resin is extracted by making deep incisions in the tree. The resin is then collected once it becomes hard and brittle. Benzoin Essential Oil is then extracted from the hard resin using solvent extraction.

    Benzoin Oil is used as an antiseptic, anti-depressant, diuretic, expectorant, sedative and vulnerary. Benzoin is used as an essential oil as well as a fixative in perfumes. Benzoin essential oil can also be used for bronchitis, coughs, psoriasis, rheumatism, arthritis, scar tissue, circulation, chilblains, rashes and mouth ulcers.

It is familiar to many as the flavouring in Earl Grey Tea. Also works well on the digestive tract and relieves conditions such as painful digestion, dyspepsia, flatulence, colic, indigestion and loss of appetite.
